Stonehenge, Stourhead, and Bath

Tuesday, 28 June, we hit the road early for Stonehenge. We had reservations for the opening hour, so it was not crowded. They have demolished all the shops, ticket offices, loos, parking, tunnel, and closed the road, so the stones sit a mile from a new visitors center all by themselves in the middle of the fields. So one is delivered to the site by means of a shuttle. We headed next to Stourhead where we toured the house and gardens. Bath was our final destination of the day. We had a problem with our large (comparatively speaking) people carrier. It was too tall to reach the upper level of a parking terrace and became wedged under a cement beam. We barely scraped out and this near miss will be remembered as the first of four low points of the trip. It rained intermittently so we ducked into Marks and Spencers for lunch before looking around the city. From Bath, we took the M4 all the way back to Berkshire and the village of Pangbourne near our cottage. There we enjoyed a very late pub dinner at the Cross Keys.
