The heavens seem to be weeping in Provo this morning: you can see a tear on the camera lens. OK, that's a bit of hyperbole, but the local election results have taken the edge off of what was a very happy national-election result. After working his buns off, Don Jarvis was defeated by Steve Clark 63.31% to 36.69%. Clark's key issue was the fact that he is a Republican and that one-party rule is good for Utah. I guess Utah gets what it deserves. I haven't seen any breakdown of how many people voted straight ticket, but that possibilty has certainly been my fear through the entire campaign.

On the up side of the mixed-emotions bag was the election last night of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. The emotion in the faces of older African Americans on TV was moving and the joy in the group watching the returns here was palpable. Americans decided and the "Decider" is on his way out. Happy day.

Today, I'm proud to be an American (not so much a Utahn -wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?). I think I'll fly the flag for a while, and I believe I'll just snatch joy wherever I can.
OXO

Sorry about the defeat! I don't think UT will ever learn! PS like hoe the sigh turned out!
I'm sad too abt the "No Dems in all of Utah County winning" situation. Over in our area we are now stuck with some that make "Super Dell Shaunze" look good. But I feel like I can breathe now with President Obama. I guess to appreciate the good we have to taste the not so good:)
Palpable joy is a great description.
Utah republicans are extreme.
And extremely frustrating.
How not hoe.
Utah is getting and will continue to get what it deserves, and it breaks my heart.
I'm sorry to hear about Jarvis, but I should admit that I voted straight ticket (which I am actually against in principle) out here in NC.
I am also proud to be an American... Finally! I feel so excited about the next eight years. I think that Obama is an inspired man and has a great vision for this country just like our founding fathers of this country! So when are we moving with the Blue States?
It was an exciting election and I am excited about how our country voted. Sorry about your man! Love the flag waving. Who says democrats are anti-american!?
Sorry to hear of your disappointment. The one campaign I got worked on here (state senator) lost by about the same margin -- and for the same reasons. After the election we're down to two R's to 24 D's in the senate! Tell me about "one party"! At least you had the national results to cheer you up! I didn't vote for a single winner!
