Mid July 2013

Mid July has been relatively uneventful, but pleasant. Phillip has joined us for dinner almost every night because his troops are in Hawaii. He helped me whip up some classic Hawaiian Loco Moco one evening. I manage to go for a walk just about every morning and always inspect some of the thousands of construction projects nearby. While I love watching it all unfold, I am frequently heartsick because BYU has pulled down hundreds of mature trees in their quest to make things "better."

Yesterday, Friday 19 July, we went up the canyon to have lunch at the invitation of Hank and Colette. The plans grew and we all drove to SLC for supper and a movie. We had dinner at the Copper Onion and then saw The Way Way Back at the Broadway. Wonderful cast; liked it.

Loco Moco and local fruit (except for the grapes)

The corner of University Parkway at 9th East is a barren
desert to make way for an extra turn lane because this will
be the only way to go west from our side of town after
BYU closes the campus -- Grrrrr

 20 degrees cooler than town

Brickerhaven is such a beautiful spot

HDT, AW, KBT, SKT, and CGT

 Carbonara: delicious

Salt Lake Film Society at the Broadway

Good times. This week is Pioneer Day, Anna and her buddy are coming, and we are headed to Mesa for a wedding. So there is more to come, but that's all for now.

Park City Mountain Resort

Friday, 5 July, we went to Park City for a ride on the Mountain Coaster. The place was packed; the wait for the coaster was an hour and a half. We had some ice cream before heading back, and we stopped by Bam Bam's to pick up some delicious barbecue for supper. As we came down over the hill from Orem to Provo, the sky was growing very dark. The heavens let loose with lightning and huge claps of thunder and we enjoyed a fantastic summer storm. The evening ended with a short visit from Gordon and Alison Reese. Saturday we went to see Despicable Me 2. That evening the adults went to P712 for dinner and afterward Katy and Daniel threw a "Marshmallow Party" for the binkers.

Gnocchi dal cielo!

These were a fun few weeks with lots of great adventures. The house is now empty and ever so quiet: a mixed blessing. And "Close the door!" is just a faint echo. Thanks for coming y'all.

This will be all for a while -- until something exciting happens.

4th of July 2013

It was a glorious Fourth, indeed. The kiddos went to the parade and watched in air-conditioned comfort from the Heirloom offices. At noon we went to the cabin for a pot-luck lunch. In the evening we moved to Steve and Tiffany's for water fun, visiting, supper, races, s'mores, Em's homemade ice cream, and fireworks. We missed Emily's pool, but the evening turned out very well. We could see fireworks all over the west part of the valley. We arrived home just in time to run to the park for a glimpse of the stadium fireworks.

Ready for the parade
