Normandie 2019 Day Three

Tuesday 2 April, we packed up, checked out of the Churchill Hotel, and walked to Le Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux for a look at the Bayeux Tapestry that memorializes the Norman Conquest. It is impressive in its length and quality of illustration. The narration on the headset gave us a good idea of what we were seeing. It was really very good, and something I have wanted to see for ages. Annie drove us to Honfleur, a fishing village highly recommended by Anna. It didn't disappoint. We drove north to Frethun, the town nearest the Calais Channel Tunnel station. We turned in the car and waited for the train to depart in the very cold station where we had a bit of a scare. Kris couldn't find her passport and searched every nook and cranny of her luggage and purse to no avail. Finally one last search revealed a zipped compartment that she had missed. We were incredibly relieved and finally able to eat something as our nausea abated. The train ride was quick, and a taxi brought us to our flat at 16 Linden Gardens where we will spend the rest of the week.

 The tapestry museum

 Reproductions of the tapestry

No photography allowed of the real thing

 Waiting in the museum courtyard

Back to the car: big and little brother

 Cathedral view from the hotel

 Au revoir

Many buildings in Honfleur are sided with dark slate like the one
in the distance

Interesting streets and alleyways abound in Honfleur

Stone, brick, and flint in an interestingly patterned wall

 Another alleyway

 The Basin is very picturesque

Annie said it reminded her of Norway

No shortage of places to eat

 Clocher (bell tower) Sainte-Catherine

The bell tower and church are separate buildings

 Wooden construction reflects ship-building technology

 Bottle bottom stained glass

The rain started as we left the village

The rain followed us over the impressive Pont de Normadie
near Le Havre

A much more relaxed KBT after finding her passport

The train station is unheated and Dickie was cold

Stephen found a heating column to keep him warm

I am posting this a day later from London. I may not be able to post today's activities again until tomorrow because we have theatre tickets tonight. So this is all for now.

OXO

Are you staying in the same place we did? Wasn't it Linden Gardens?
