Paris 2019 Day Six

It was Tuesday and the d'Orsay was open, though interestingly, the Cluny is closed on Tuesdays. But I digress. We spent the morning looking at some wonderful pieces, though I have to agree with Anna, lots of art is not that inspiring. It is wonderful when you feel an emotional connection with a piece, likely because of familiarity, or because it resonates with you in some way. We definitely saw some of both. We had lunch in le Café Campana at the museum seated by the huge clock face. Later, we walked up the Boulevard Saint-Michel to the Jardin du Luxembourg, rubbing shoulders with students and Bohemian types. On the way back to the flat, we stopped in at the Pantheon. Uncle Rod and Aunt Vic arrived from Florence late this afternoon, and we all had dinner together at a restaurant in our delightful neighborhood.

Fantastic repurposing of a Belle-Epoche train station

Édouard Manet

Kris loves models and miniatures and this one of the
Opera is a doozy

This little painting by Paul Sérusier grabbed me hard

 Musée d'Orsay

I have felt a connection to Paul Cézanne since Junior High School
when I created a report on him (I won't say wrote because it
was primarily graphic layout and illustrations)

I am excited to visit Giverny in person next week

And I am chuffed to see the Rouen Cathedral
up close and personal, too

One of my traveling companions says absinthe is tasty --
 painting by Edgar Degas

I wanted to take this Jean-Édouard Vuillard home with me

le Café Campana

 Montmartre in the distance

 A tasty meal

The former ballroom from the d'Orsay Hotel still
has all its Belle-Epoche splendor

 An impressive space

The Boulevard Saint-Michel looks deserted, but isn't really at all

Sainte Ursule de la Sorbonne, the school church

Medici Fountain in the Luxembourg Gardens

Palais du Luxembourg, home of the French Sénat

Looking up the Rue Soufflot toward the Pantheon

 Pantheon interior

Tour Eiffel framed by the columns of the Pantheon portico

We live just around the corner from the Pantheon

They're here

Tomorrow we have our tour of the Louvre, so more then. This, however, is all for now.

Also meant to say that I also LOVED the miniature model of the opera house.
