In the last post I mentioned that many of the Eichlers are under-appreciated and miserably remuddled. I found these three sad examples today. Enjoy.

The fanlight can be so elegant

With not much effort, this beauty could look like the next two

You'll say Si Si to this one

Heck, who wanted a courtyard entry anyway?
That's probably the last Eichler post . . . ever.
OXO

And check out this Robert Rummer house for sale in Portland right now.

It's just minutes from where I currently live!
Amazingly similar to that Eichler!
The colors inside that Rummer house are a little crazy. I'd have to repaint. But "it's got good bones."
Ugh! Ick! Sad!
Ellen: It does have good bones. It looks like the entry court has been made part of the house. Or, maybe, in Portland, they were never open. Do you know if that is the original state?

I'm not sure on the original state of that house. It may have had a front courtyard... I don't know... However, I do know that many of Rummer's homes have a CENTRAL courtyard.
In fact, it's quite interesting to see the google satellite map of the Vista Brook neighborhood which holds 30 or so of Rummer's homes. They all appear to have white roofs... with a hole in the middle. The hole... of course being that central courtyard.
I'm not sure if this link of a google satellite map will work... but copy and paste it and see...

If not... just google "Vista Brook Portland" and it will show you Vista Brook Park... and just a tad to the southeast you will see the patch of homes. It's hard to miss. So distinctive.
Also... here's a link to an interesting (and old, circa 2006) article about Rummer in "Portland Monthly" that shows some great interiors.

Okay, I'm done talking about Rummer! Ha ha ha.
hm. try this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7GGIT_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=VISTA+BROOK+PORTLAND&fb=1&gl=us&hq=VISTA+BROOK&hnear=Portland,+OR&cid=0,0,12159181019579311604&ei=qpdxTZvsJZCugQfJ6605&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CBUQnwIwAA
and this:

and if you zoom in on that map... you can almost see inside their courtyards! ha ha ha.
The first links worked fine. Kris and I enjoyed the habitat pdf very much. They are such great houses. I am glad to know you are such a fan. I really hope you end up in one. They appear to sell for slightly more than the moderately-priced houses here, so maybe it will be a go. They certainly aren't near the price of the Palo Alto versions.
Thanks for all the good links. I really appreciate getting to know Rummer.

Oh good! Glad you've enjoyed it!
