Almost Thanksgiving

On Friday,  20 November, we joined Katy and Evey on a Salt-Lake-City adventure to visit Carrie and new baby Orel. Rod and Vic were there, so that was a bonus. We headed to Reno on Tuesday the 24th with Madeline in tow. Arriving here we have had a splendid time with family visiting and, of course, eating some good food. The Ensigns and Colvers arrived yesterday, the 25th, and we are now just about ready for the feast.

Mid November 2012

It goes without saying that there has been a walk every morning. In addition, 5 November was Guy Fawkes Day and Bonfire Night. We celebrated this strange remembrance of the Gunpowder Plot with the family. My aunt, Ruth Taylor Kartchner, Father's youngest and only surviving sibling, died in October before we left for Arizona. Her funeral was Friday 6 November. Cousin Hank Nelson and I were fortunate enough to meet her on our walk just a couple of days before she died. In the Taylor family, funerals are the closest thing to reunions we seem to have, and it was good to see lots of cousins. We hosted the family Sunday dinner on the second Sunday and the following day I went to tour Allen Hall with Rod, Allen and Nancy Ostergar, and Phil Freestone. It was there that I learned Portuguese prior to going to Brazil 50 years ago. We met those same folks for Group Dinner at Bam Bam's BBQ. Rod and Vickie hosted and we returned to their home for key lime pie and lots of good visiting. Last Saturday we met at cousin Kreg's place in SLC for an expanded Cousin's Breakfast with cousin HB who was in town. That evening we picked up Rod and Vic and took them to the Brazilian restaurant in Salt Lake. I loved Vic's key lime pie so much that I made us one for our solo Sunday Dinner.
