Harry's Baptism

It has been a busy day, starting at 8:00 with Finn's soccer game. Then at 10 and 11 Harry and Beckham had soccer matches. We had lunch at Paradise Bakery and then rushed home to get ready for Harry's Baptism. With just about an hour to turn around, I dashed to Costco to get supplies for Sunday Dinner. Harry chose Firebirds Mountain Grill for his celebration dinner.

Chinese New Year

Today started with a walk at dawn. The morning was filled with creating a SNAP blog post, and the afternoon was spent on errands getting clothes for Harry's baptism. This evening we went to Rio Vista Park for the Arizona Chinese Lantern Festival. It was a day late, but the festival was in honor of Chinese New Year. There was food, including Navajo tacos (it is Arizona after all). We chose the wrong thing: Panda-Express-like combo, but really lousy! Nothing is as disappointing to me as a missed opportunity for good food. The festival featured lots of stuff including entertainment and float-like lanterns. When darkness fell, they were quite dramatic.

Nice to be up for the sunrise

Tomorrow with be a full day so there will be more. That, however, is all for now.

Let the Adventure Begin

The day we knew would come at last, came at last. We are in Arizona on the first leg of our spring trip to the southwest. The journey was great with only one stop for gas. The new little CRV got 30 miles to the gallon! The trip took 9 hours which is only one hour longer than the trip to Reno. Who knew? I was unable to get all my Fitbit steps sitting in a car all day, so I headed out for a walk as soon as we arrived. The weather is perfect and it was a great walk just at sunset. Some of Gavin's family came for supper provided by Maren: fajitas.

More to come, but that's all for now.

Before We Head to the Southwest

Before we take off tomorrow to Arizona, I wanted to clear up the odds and ends so I could start fresh with the trip. We are going for Harry David's baptism and will spend the weekend with the Youngs. On Monday we will go to Mesa to spend a week with Grandmother before flying to Texas to spend a week with Debby in Shenandoah/Houston. When we return to AZ, the plan is to travel with Maren and Gavin and the boys to San Diego for a weekend during their spring break. We'll see if that comes together. So here are some bits from the middle of February.

Daily morning walks often have beautiful surprises

Compound dinner and FHE: Valentine preparation

Late afternoon sun can also produce beautiful light on Timp

We love our monthly cousins' breakfasts in SLC

We were a bit early for SNAP so we drove up to see the
sun set over Utah Lake

More morning walks past Rock Canyon and Squaw Peak

Our current favorite -- hope we have time to see some tonight
after we pack

That's all for now, but I will post from AZ and TX, and possibly from CA if it all works out.

January to February 2015

It has been pretty calm around here though January so this post is made up of odds and ends from the last part of January and the start of February. We continue to love our calling with SNAP (Special Needs Activity Program). I have become official photographer and blogger. You can see the blog by linking from this page or go to: provosnap.blogspot.com.  Kris gave me a Fitbit for Christmas and it has been extremely motivating for me. I just have to get my steps everyday, so I have been walking. Some of what appears in the post is images captured on my various walks. It is also probably worth mentioning that we have exchanged meals with the kids and held our customary family dinners. The kids gave us season tickets to the Hale Center Theater and we certainly enjoyed Barefoot in the Park. In January, we traded our beloved Honda Pilot in on a new CRV. We loved that car like an old friend, but the new rig is proving to be lovable as well. The Freestones returned from their stint in the Dominican Republic as MTC President, and we got together with the Group for supper at their home.

We are headed to Arizona, Texas, and California in just a couple of weeks, so there will be more. This, however, is all for now.
